Solano Winds Community Concert Band Presents "From Spain, With Love"
Concert performance by Solano County musicians, welcoming our new director, Dr. Sixto F. Montesinos, Jr.
Solano Winds Community Concert Band opens its 32nd season with From Spain, With Love, a colorful musical journey through Spain led by the ensemble’s new Music Director and Conductor, Dr. Sixto F. Montesinos Jr. The concert marks the beginning of Montesinos’ first season at the helm of Solano Winds and launches a 2026–27 season built around ambitious symphonic wind repertoire, musical storytelling, and a renewed connection between the ensemble and the Solano County community.
For his inaugural concert, Montesinos turns to the music of Spain, presenting a program filled with brilliant colors, dramatic contrasts, dance rhythms, breathtaking landscapes, and the unmistakable energy of the Spanish musical tradition. The program features works by several of Spain’s leading contemporary composers, including Ferrer Ferran, Óscar Navarro, and José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana.
Óscar Navarro’s Paisajes de Fantasía is a sweeping musical journey through imagined landscapes, alongside his playful and virtuosic The Fly. The program also includes Ferrer Ferran’s El Pilar Andalucía de Estepona, Pascual-Vilaplana’s rhythmically charged Yakka, and La Mezquita de Córdoba, a dramatic musical portrait inspired by one of Spain’s most extraordinary architectural and cultural landmarks. Together, the works create a program that moves between celebration, mystery, lyricism, humor, and spectacle.
In his own words, Dr. Montesinos says of the program, “Spain has an extraordinary wind band tradition, and I wanted my first concert with Solano Winds to introduce our audiences to the incredible range of colors and emotions found in this music. This program is joyful, dramatic, passionate, and sometimes unexpected. It is a wonderful way to begin our journey together.”
From Spain, With Love also represents the beginning of a new artistic chapter for Solano Winds. Now entering its 32nd season, the community concert band brings together musicians from throughout Solano County and the surrounding region to perform high-quality wind repertoire while creating opportunities for musicians and audiences to connect through live music.
