Soroptimist International of Marysville-Yuba City today announced it is hosting a family trivia night benefiting Girls on the Run of the North State.

During the event, participants will form teams and compete against each other for prizes while answering trivia questions. Past and current participants will also lead activities from the GOTR curriculum between rounds of trivia and share information about the program. Members of the Soroptimist of Marysville-Yuba City club will also be selling raffle tickets for family-oriented prizes donated by members of the community.

Girls face more pressure than ever before. Since 2017, reports of sadness and depression tripled in 5th and 6th graders. In 2021 three out of five teen girls reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless – a 60% increase since 2011. Additionally, 66% of girls report that how they feel about their body makes them feel less confident and 88% of girls report that they are under pressure to be pretty.

The Girls on the Run program is designed to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates physical activities. After participating in Girls on the Run, 95% of girls reported feeling more confident and 92% reported learning skills to help deal with strong emotions. Funds raised will be used exclusively for scholarships for local girls participating in the Girls on the Run program.
