The Independence development in the Southport section of West Sacramento is open.

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – A Southern California developer has opened the Independence rental townhome community in West Sacramento.

Lewis Apartments, part of Lewis Group of Companies in Upland, opened the 208-unit development in the Southport area in October. The company hasn’t released a cost for the project, but it valued a 220-unit rental community slated for Solano County at $110 million.

Rent for the West Sacramento units, which range in size from 1,176 square feet to 1,722 square feet, starts at $2,885 a month and goes to $3,700, according to information found on the Lewis Apartments website. The development contains two- and three-bedroom rentals.

Amenities include a heated pool and a hot tub area, a 24-hour fitness center, pickleball courts, outdoor barbecue and gathering areas, and a dog park.

Independence marks the second area development opened by Lewis recently, following Independence in Dixon, a $93 million, 186-unit rental community project.

“The success of Independence in Dixon showed us there is strong demand for rental homes that offer more space, privacy and the features people value in a home, without giving up the flexibility and convenience of renting,” said Randall Lewis of Lewis Group of Companies.

Independence in West Sacramento offers “a more residential way of living while keeping residents close to Downtown Sacramento and the region’s major employment centers,” he added.

Lewis plans to expand into additional Northern California markets, with future communities planned in Folsom, Vacaville and Fairfield, among other locations.

Lewis has served the Sacramento region for more than 50 years, and it has built more than 15,000 homes and 2,500 multifamily units in Northern California during that time.
