WOODLAND, CA (MPG) - Yolo County Supervisors Angel Barajas (District 5) and Oscar Villegas (District 1) joined county administrators on Oct. 15 for a tour of the county’s new Agriculture Shop at 120 W. Main St. in Woodland. The facility, which remains under construction, will provide a modern home for key agricultural services and move department operations out of a residential neighborhood.

The new building will serve as a centralized home for the Agriculture Department's day-to-day operations. It will include laboratories, testing rooms, a maintenance shop, a garage, a break room and restrooms, as well as electric vehicle charging for county fleet vehicles. The facility will support agricultural testing, administration, maintenance, and weights and measures functions, with improvements to pest identification, water meter testing and other services that support local agriculture and protect consumers.

Relocating the shop to a commercially zoned area will also reduce the department's footprint in a residential neighborhood, improving compatibility with surrounding land uses and making department operations more efficient.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Yolo County, and our Ag Department deserves a modern facility that matches the importance of its work,” said Supervisor Barajas. “This building is an investment in our farmers, our food supply and our local economy.”

“I’m grateful for the county’s investment in the Agriculture/Weights & Measures Department,” said Agricultural Commissioner Izquierdo. “This new facility will strengthen our pest detection program by upgrading our pest identification lab, providing additional space for supplies and consolidating our operations into one location.”

The facility will also provide significant improvements for the Weights and Measures division, including a modern water meter test bench, increased storage for the department's heavy-capacity weight truck, gas pump testing equipment, and other specialized tools. These improvements will strengthen the county's ability to protect consumers and safeguard agricultural and natural lands.

The project has no impact on the county's General Fund. It was funded through the Agriculture Department’s Ag Capital Fund, development impact fees and bond proceeds. The Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract to Creekside Commercial Builders, Inc. in January 2025.

The facility advances the county’s strategic goals of a flourishing agriculture sector and a robust economy. Opening and operations are anticipated in December or January.
