CLARKSBURG, CA (MPG) - Yolo County will once again welcome thousands of athletes competing in the Ironman California triathlon on Sunday, Oct. 18. The bicycle portion of the race will take competitors through the Clarksburg area, showcasing the County’s Delta landscape and scenic rural roads.

Nearly 3,000 triathletes are expected to compete in the event. The bicycle course begins in West Sacramento and follows South River Road, Babel Slough Road and State Route 84 into Solano County. Riders will complete the circuit twice before beginning the marathon portion of the race.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ironman California athletes and visitors back to Yolo County,” said Oscar Villegas, Yolo County District 1 Supervisor. “Cycling is part of our County’s identity, and this race gives us a chance to share the beauty of our Delta communities with athletes taking on an extraordinary challenge. We look forward to cheering them on.”

Road Closures and Travel Information

The event will bring road closures, delays and detours along the bicycle course from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents and visitors should plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Course roads will be closed to through traffic, with access restricted to residents and businesses. The California Highway Patrol will manage traffic at several intersections. The affected road segments include:

South River Road: Both directions between Gregory Avenue and Babel Slough Road.

Babel Slough Road: Both directions between South River Road and State Route 84.

State Route 84: Both directions between Babel Slough Road and Miner Slough Bridge.

Ryer Avenue: From Miner Slough Bridge to approximately two miles east of the bridge.

Travelers should avoid the racecourse and use alternate routes where possible. Residents are advised to note the following access restrictions and detours:

Access to West Sacramento via State Route 84 will be extremely limited during the race. Travelers should use Freeport Bridge to reach the Interstate 5 corridor for travel north toward West Sacramento.

Miner Slough Bridge will be restricted to emergency use during the race. Motorists should use the Caltrans ferry in the Walnut Grove area.

If ferry service is disrupted during the race, a backup access plan will allow residents to cross Miner Slough Bridge.

Yolo County asks travelers to slow down, remain alert, follow posted signs and instructions from traffic control personnel, and use care around cyclists, volunteers and spectators.
