DAVIS, CA (MPG) - Police Chief Todd Henry is leaving the Davis Police Department to accept a position with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office as the assistant sheriff, city officials announced on Sept. 16.

Manager Daryel Dunston has appointed Deputy Police Chief Matt Petersen as interim police chief, effective immediately upon Henry’s departure, scheduled for Sept. 25.

Henry has served as chief for nearly two years. He joined the Davis Police Department in May 2023 as deputy chief and was promoted to chief in October 2024.

Petersen will oversee the department while the city considers next steps toward selecting a permanent police chief.
