Heritage Oaks Park is close to being opened to the public. 

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – West Sacramento’s Heritage Oaks Park will open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 15.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the park, located at 1300 Lake Washington Blvd., in the Southport community. 

The city is currently completing a $7,833,175 renovation, which began in August 2025. 

As the city concludes work at Heritage Oaks, it recently broke ground on upgrading Bryte Park, a $64 million project that will modernize one of the city’s oldest parks. 

Improvements at Bryte Park will include a new aquatics facility, nine acres of new natural grass field space, an all-weather sports field and an outdoor amphitheater. Construction is expected to be completed in 2029.

The city acquired Heritage Oaks Park about 10 years ago. The park was home to Tree Top Sacramento, a zipline park operated by a private company that took advantage of large oak trees found on the nine-acre property.

But Tree Top Sacramento closed in fall 2023, after less than four years of operation. Kletterwald USA, which operated the location, cited rising insurance premiums for the closure. 

The Heritage Oaks renovation includes construction of a new outdoor amphitheater, nature play area, water play area and playground.

Of the more than $7.8 million spent on the project, $4,833,175 came from park impact fees while the remaining $3 million was from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Park impact fees are charges levied on new real estate developments, with funds going toward neighborhood and community park infrastructure, trails and recreational facilities. 

The Land and Water Conservation Fund directs federal dollars to recreation opportunities across the nation, especially for natural areas, water resources and cultural heritage sites.

Community members are encouraged to return to Heritage Oaks at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a party in the park. Food, water bottles and souvenir stickers will be available.
