WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we are asking every member of our school community to help reinforce one simple message: every school day matters.

Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. When students are in class each day, they have more opportunities to build relationships with teachers and classmates, participate in learning, stay on track academically and feel connected to their school community.

We understand that students may occasionally need to miss school because of illness or other unavoidable circumstances. However, even a few absences each month can add up quickly and make it harder for students to keep pace with instruction. Establishing consistent routines, such as preparing backpacks and clothing the night before, maintaining regular bedtimes and scheduling appointments outside the school day when possible, can make a meaningful difference.

Throughout September, Washington Unified School District schools will share reminders, resources and encouragement to support strong attendance habits. Families play an essential role in helping students arrive at school every day, on time and ready to learn.
