YOLO COUNTY, CA (MPG) – More than 1,000 people attended the ninth “Cruisin’ into the Next Chapter” Classic Car and Truck Show on Saturday, Aug. 22 in the town of Yolo. This family-friendly event was sponsored by the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library and the Yolo County Library.

More than 115 classic cars and trucks lined the streets of Yolo. David Nusz was awarded Best of Show for his 1941 Willys Coupe. Frank Morales’ 1966 Impala was selected by representatives from local fire departments to receive the Fire Chiefs’ Hot Pick. Twelve additional awards were given in the following categories.

Categories included Stock Car 1900-1959: Frank Martinez 1929 Ford Model A; Stock Car 1960-1999: Miguel Garcia 1960 Chevrolet Impala; Modified Car 1900-1959: Michael Swett 1934 Ford 2-door Sedan; Modified Car 1960-1999: Steve Kynard 1962 Chevrolet Nova; Stock Truck 1900-1999: Randy Johnson 1958 Studebaker Transtar Pick-Up; Modified Truck 1900-1959: Dana Rounds 1956 Ford F-100; Modified Truck 1960-1999: Art Castillo 1964 Chevrolet C-10.

This year’s Lowrider Bike Show was expanded to include both youth and adults. From the four entries, awards were given in the following categories, all to members of the Emperors Bike Club in Knights Landing.

Youth Best 16” Lowrider Bike went to Alex Solorzano age 12 and Youth Best 20” Lowrider Bike went to Emiliano Solorzano age 14. Adult Best 20” Lowrider Bike and Adult Best 26” Lowrider Bike went to Jose Solorzano.

The Friends of the Yolo Branch Library thank the more than 80 volunteers and community partners who helped make this year’s event possible. Supporters included the County of Yolo, American Legion Yolo Post 77 Honor Guard, Cache Creek High School, Gabe Tafoya, Miguel Vazquez, Rick and Kathy Hernandez, Scout Troop 69, SorD, Yolo Fire Protection District, Yolo Market, Yolo Skate Crew and YOLO Snack. Trophies were provided by O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and VC Upholstery. Dozens more generous businesses worked with the Friends and Yolo County Library to make this event another success.

Families enjoyed walking among classic cars and trucks, listening to music by Rockwell Sound & Lighting, viewing antique fire trucks from the Yolo, Woodland, Knights Landing and Dunnigan fire departments, seeing a display of antique tractors and gas engines brought by the Early Days Gas Engine & Tractor Association, and learning about recycling from Yolo County Integrated Waste Management. There was a variety of delicious food including hamburgers and hot dogs barbequed by the Woodland Kiwanis Club. New this year was the TrackLab 4WD multi-lane Mini 4WD racing course on the library lawn. Children also enjoyed free twisted balloon creations, received free books, and participated in activities at the Yolo Branch Library. All proceeds from this event went to the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library to fund library programs and services for the communities of Yolo, Zamora, Dunnigan and surrounding areas.
