WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The City of West Sacramento invites the community to attend the 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bridgeway Lake Community Park, 3650 Southport Parkway.

This free community event will feature an evening of activities, music, performances, raffle prizes, live art and family-friendly fun in recognition of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Celebrated by communities for more than 150 years, Juneteenth honors Black heritage, resilience, freedom and the ongoing importance of reflection, education and community connection. Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.

This year’s celebration will include performances by Jahri’s World, Tina B. & Sacramento Soul Line Dancers, C.I.E. — Confidence is Everything Stomp & Shake, Fortune Panthers Marching Band and live art by Danitta Nelson.

The first 200 attendees will receive a $10 food truck voucher and a tote bag. Free Via rideshare will be available, and the splash pad will be open late for the event.

“Bringing West Sacramento together to celebrate Juneteenth fosters unity, positivity, cultural pride and a shared commitment to progress for all who call West Sacramento home. Juneteenth is an important opportunity to acknowledge the end of slavery in the U.S. while honoring the resilience and contributions of those who have worked toward equality and human rights for all Americans,” said Patrice Griffith, West Sacramento resident, community volunteer and student advocate.

Community partners and sponsors include Via, SacTown MoFo, Yolo County Office of Education, Yolo County Supervisor Oscar E. Villegas District 1 Community Benefit Fund and Washington Unified School District.
