WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Get ready for the City of West Sacramento’s second annual Community Academy.

The Community Academy is a free, seven-session program designed to help West Sacramento residents learn more about their city government.

Participants will learn about the operations of various city departments through an interactive, behind-the-scenes learning experience that is designed to be both informative and fun.

Academy graduates will be prepared to advocate more effectively for policies and programs they support, to apply for advisory commissions or to simply be better-informed about how their city operates.

Feedback from last year's cohort has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants talked to the police and fire chiefs. They learned how the city’s water is treated and distributed. They discovered how building and road projects are planned and approved. And they could ask questions to the city clerk.

All costs are covered by the City of West Sacramento. There are no application fees and all seven sessions will include dinner for participants.

Applications for the 2025 Community Academy will be accepted throughout January. Following the close of the application period, city staff will randomly select applications for consideration and will attempt to assemble a group that is geographically and demographically representative of the city’s diverse population.
