Community Center Has Events for 50-Plus
Dec 24, 2024 09:28AM ● By West Sacramento Community Center News ReleaseWEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - If you are 50-plus, members and nonmembers of the West Sacramento Community Center are invited to attend the “Cooking Matters in Your Community” sponsored by Cal Fresh and Agency on Aging Area 4.
Cooking Matters is a food demonstration, nutrition and education series that empowers participants with the skills to stretch their food budgets to maintain healthy eating at home. At each session, the participants will enjoy fun and interactive group activities, along with food from live cooking demonstrations.
Sessions are from 11 a.m. to noon every Monday, except Feb. 17, Feb. 3 through March 3, at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. Register in advance by calling the Community Center at 916-617-5320 or register online at westsacfun.org.
Do you have questions for your West Sacramento Police Department? If so, the West Sacramento Community Center is hosting “Coffee with a Cop” from 10:30 a.m. to noon March 5. Enjoy coffee, pastries and conversation with fellow seniors and the West Sacramento Police Department. The event will be held at the Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave., and is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Coming in April and open to seniors 50-plus, members and nonmembers of the West Sacramento Community Center are invited to attend the Eat Smart, Live Strong Workshop. The four-series workshop is designed to encourage older adults to increase their fruit and vegetable consumption to at least 3 ½ cups (1 ½ cup fruit and 2 cups vegetables) and to participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. The program includes cooking demonstrations, access to staff dietitians, healthy eating on a budget, nutrition goal setting, and discovering simple ways to add physical activity to your day. The workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to noon April 7 to April 28 at the West Sacramento Community Center, 1075 West Capitol Ave. Register in advance by calling the Community Center at (916) 617-5320 or register online at westsacfun.org.
