Coalition Hosts 13th Annual Human Milk Drive

Dec 10, 2024 01:11PM ● By Yolo County News Release

WOODLAND, CA (MPG) - The Yolo County Breastfeeding Coalition will hold the 13th annual Human Milk Drive on Dec. 16 located at Hansen Family Health Center, 215 West Beamer St. in Woodland from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This important event supports infant health by collecting human milk donations from lactating families in Yolo County. All frozen donated breast milk up to nine months from the expression day will be sent to the Mothers' Milk Bank, a certified, safe milk donation center in Northern California.

This year's event is a collaborative effort between the Yolo County Breastfeeding Coalition, local health organizations, hospitals and community partners. The goal is to ensure that every infant has access to the optimal nutrition that breast milk provides.

"We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of the Yolo County community over the years," said Lizeth Betancourt, IBCLC and Yolo County Breastfeeding Coordinator. “This event is crucial in providing vulnerable infants with the best start in life, and we're excited to celebrate our 13th year of collecting donated milk. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a significant difference.”

Breastfeeding remains the gold standard for infant nutrition, offering essential antibodies and numerous health benefits. Even as little as a quarter of an ounce of donated milk can help a premature baby thrive. The Human Milk Drive supports families in need and raises awareness about the ongoing need for breast milk donations and the benefits of breastfeeding for infant health.
