GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley’s American Legion Post 210 honored one of its own at their meeting Wednesday, November 30th.

Commander Owen Stiles was awarded Legionnaire of the Year 2022, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and service to the American Legion, devotion to the community, state and nation.

Stiles, U.S. Navy veteran of 20 years, has been a member of the Gridley American Legion Post since 2006. He is currently serving his 10th consecutive year as the group’s commander.

Commander Stiles tells the Herald: “I am humbled by it (honor). I never thought that the guys would get together and honor me with that award.” He continues, speaking on his role in the leadership of the group, “Being the commander of the post, I’m into rewarding the other members of the group and not myself – it’s not about me. It’s about the post. I never expected this.”

His fellow post members agreed that their commander was highly deserving of the recognition.
