GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley said goodbye to Councilman Zach Torres after years of serving on the City Council at their December 5th meeting.

Torres called his retirement from the council “bittersweet because there were so many other things that I wanted to see get finished.” He continued, “I have faith in the new council and the fantastic City staff we have.” He expressed his thanks to area and state officials, including Congressman Doug LaMalfa, Senator Brian Dahle, Butte County Supervisor Tod Kimmelshue, and Assemblyman James Gallagher for their recognition of his service and dedication to the community of Gridley.

At the same meeting, James Roberts, councilman elect, was sworn into office along with Bruce Johnson for another four-year term. Johnson has previously served the City of Gridley as Mayor. After taking the Oath of Office, Johnson and Roberts joined the other civic leaders on the dais to begin the process of restructuring the council.

Councilman Mike Farr will now serve the City of Gridley as mayor, with Bruce Johnson serving as vice-mayor for the next two years.
