GLENN COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The North Valley 11 and under Little League baseball team recently won their first tournament of the fall season with an undefeated 4-0 record last week in Orland.

The team is made up of players from the Butte and Sutter County Areas. The North Valley program has teams with players ranging from 8 and under to 16 and under.

The league is for young baseball players to continue working on their fundamentals while competing around Northern California, according to Javier Solis, head coach of the 11U team. Solis is among the highly qualified coaches in the Biggs and Gridley areas. Sutter High is represented by Stewart Peterson and John Johnson is from East Nicolaus High.

Over the weekend, North Valley won all four games. Biggs was the first to fall by a 10-2 score. Cottonwood was next by a 13-1 margin. Orland got shut out at their home field 13-0. In the championship game, North Valley defeated the Chico Mavericks in a thriller 12-9.

“It’s been nice, we’ve been up in the Reno/Mather/Woodland/Elk Grove areas quite often so coming to play in some games up north has been nice for our kids,” Solis said. “Our offense has been hot from the get-go; it was our pitching and defense that was kinda slowing us down a bit.

“We found a way to get all three of those working at the same time. That helped us accomplish our goal of winning this tournament.”

The town of Gridley was well represented on the 11U team. David Taranto received all-tournament honors after recording eight hits with two home runs and one triple. Taranto added 10 runs scored and 10 runs batted in.

“I’m really happy with our boys and I look forward to the upcoming tournament this weekend,” Solis said. “We’ll keep putting in the hard work throughout the next couple months and see where it takes us.”

Jaden Solis led the team with two doubles and eight stolen bases. Marcos Sarabia earned a win on the mound after pitching five innings, striking out eight batters and allowing only one walk.

Players on the North Valley 11U team are the following: Taranto, Sarabia, Jaden Solis, Lucas Read, Adrian San Miguel, Lochlan Triebold, JJ Victorino, Tristan Heusser, Maverick Cable, Antion Reyes and Steven Patterson Jr. Coaches include Javier Solis, Manuel Reyes and Steven Patterson Sr.

North Valley will be playing this upcoming weekend in Chico. The Halloween Bash, hosted by the Chico Aces, is the 11U team’s last tournament of the calendar year, so go check them out and root for your local boys!
