SUTTER, CA (MPG) - The Sutter Huskies varsity volleyball team easily took care of the Lindhurst Blazers in a Pioneer Valley League match-up with a three-set sweep on Monday night.

Sutter took the sets 25-8, 25-5 and 25-11 to improve their PVL record to 13-0 on the season.

All eyes Monday night were on the seven seniors that the Huskies have on their roster. In a pre-match ceremony, the seniors stepped out one-by-one onto the floor with their families and were recognized for their contributions to the Sutter volleyball program along with what their younger teammates admire about them in the speeches.

Sutter (26-4-1, 13-0 PVL) head coach Elizabeth Bhatti told the Dispatch that she wasn’t allowed to read their senior speeches because the floor would’ve been covered in tears as she spoke about each senior.

“They’re a special group of girls that help unify the team,” Bhatti said.

The Huskies have seven senior girls on their roster that includes Carsyn Minton, Mia Minard, Adrianna Villalpando, Natalee Gardner, Madison Rogers, Laura Anderson and Gracie Langsdorf. Bhatti added multiple times throughout the interview with the Dispatch that it is hard to get mad at the seniors due to them being a fun group of girls that make everyone laugh non-stop.

The laughter on and off the court doesn’t stop, including during interviews and inside jokes between the teammates. Sutter senior setter Mia Minard said that it’s sad that her time playing alongside her beloved teammates is nearing its end. Minard had 10 aces and 19 assists in the match against Lindhurst.

“We love playing and being around another,” Minard told the Dispatch.

Although the Huskies have an undefeated record in the PVL, those wins didn’t come easy.

Senior opposite hitter Madison Rogers told the Dispatch that on October 5 when Sutter played Bear River, it was the toughest league match they faced.

“We had to pull everything out in us and do our best,” Rogers said. “We couldn’t slack off, we had to completely be on top of our game,”

Bear River is the only team that has handed the Huskies a set loss during PVL play. Bhatti said that the environment against the Bruins felt like it was great preparation for the playoffs, where Sutter will find out what CIF Sac-Joaquin Section division they’ll be competing in on Friday afternoon.

“I told them during one of the time outs that I trust you and I know you trust each other,” Bhatti said.

Senior defensive specialist Natalee Gardner had 13 digs in the match against the Blazers. She told the Dispatch that the Huskies can balance out the fun and competitiveness.

“Everyone understands that when it’s time to do our job, it’s time to do our job and having fun clears our heads, Gardner explained.”

Sutter plays its last regular season match on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the road against Wheatland (10-14, 3-10 PVL).
