GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Empty sections of cold storage space and shelves with goods becoming sparse at the old SavMor located on Washington Street was just a hint that the new store’s opening was drawing near.

A 5-day blow-out sale advertised on Facebook ending September 7^th was even more of a hint that the store would indeed be opening this week.

When we spoke with store manager Kayla Parker earlier this summer, during the hiring events, she shared that there was no grand opening planned for the store. Instead, the employee-owned company would opt for a soft opening for its new, much larger location.

From the outside, every aspect of the new SavMor store off Fairview Drive in Gridley looks ready. Signage is in place, the parking lot is paved, striped and ready, delivery vehicles have been seen around the store and carts are positioned outside, ready for shoppers.

The Herald was unable to contact Parker, but Vice President of the Southern District of SavMor, Michael Sodaro, confirmed the store will indeed be opening Thursday, September 8^th. and employees couldn’t be more excited about it!

Mike Newman, who has been with the Gridley SavMor for decades shares his excitement about the new, warehouse style store. “It’s just amazing,” he says, “we’ve been over in there in that smaller building – I’ve been over there for 20 years – and the size of this (store) is just awesome. We’re able to offer the customer more products, more variety – it’s just going to be a better shopping experience for the customer. It’s something we’ve been longing to offer them.”

The new Gridley SavMor store hours will be 7:00 am – 10:00 pm daily, as of September 8^th.
