GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Recently, Butte County Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and the Butte County Library held a resource fair in Gridley.
Multiple organizations were in attendance, including the Butte County Oral Health, Butte County Injury and Prevention, and the North Valley Catholic Services (NVCSS) Promotores Program. All provided an array of educational resources to promote physical and mental health and well-being, with fun giveaways and activities for the children in attendance.
Children took advantage of rock painting at the Butte County Library booth, which also provided free Bob Ross cookbooks to families courtesy of a grant received by the State of California. Free bubbles and sidewalk chalk were also a boon for the kiddos. A variety of toothbrushes, from infant to adult sizes were available courtesy of the Butte County Oral Health Program, including timers to help promote the proper time length for brushing, Potter the Otter books, and information on access to dental care in the area. Butte County Injury and Prevention was on hand with information about proper car seat installation, classes, helmet fittings and even free helmets for youth.
Little artists got busy with watercolor activities provided by the NVCSS Promotores Program while adults learned more about what resources were available to them regarding mental health programs. The Promotores program is designed to remove language and cultural barriers to allow everyone equal access to mental health services.
While the resource fair was somewhat small in size, it had a decent turnout, and attendees left with valuable information and tools for a healthier and safer life for their families.
